The IDE interface on Amiga is a kludge.

The IDE comand set is a higher level than the
basic SCSI comands, so with a bit of "tricky" software,
the IDE comands can be emulated / created from a
bunch of SCSI comands.

So, your IDE drives are getting controlled by the "tricky"
software that sits on top of the scsi.device.

That's why IDE drives use the scsi.device.

SCSI drives don't have to,
they understand SCSI comands just fine.
